An emergency, disaster, accident and injury can occur at any time and without warning. Being prepared to handle emergency is an individual as well as an organizational responsibility. Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that employees are aware of safety procedures and emergency protocols.
All areas of UBC must have:
- A Local Health and Safety Committee (LHSC)
- A Building Emergency Response Plan.
- A posted Emergency Evacuation Plan.
- A Pre-Designated Meeting Area.
- A Building Emergency Director.
- Floor Wardens for each floor or area.
- First Aid as required by WorkSafeBC.
What can I do to be better prepared BEFORE an emergency occurs?
- Read the Emergency Procedures & Information pamphlet thoroughly and keep it on hand.
- Be familiar with your Buildings Emergency Response Plan.
- Know locations of fire pull alarms, fire extinguishers and first aid kits and AED’s.
- Research other emergency information (See “Resources” section)
